Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian Students Were Touring in Dancing
05/10/2006
The joint concerts of Baltic students were held from 9-13th of May in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, Liepaja and Riga. The concert tour took place in the framework of Baltic students cooperation project that was coordinated by Tartu Students House. The partners of the project were Liepaja Pedagogic Academy from Lativia and Lithuanian Chorus Association.
The aim of the concert tour was to strengthen folk-cultural cooperation and to promote folk dances, folk songs and pipe-music among young people. During the united concerts new dances were presented that combined modern and traditional folk style. The new dances were choreographed by Rene Nommik and II year choreography students of Tallinn University. Also discussion groups were held about the future and current situation of folk culture. Hopefully the tour enforced closer cooperation and initiation of new projects for the future.
Estonian groups touring around Latvia and Lithuania are Tallinn University of Technology Dance Group Kuljus, Folk Ensemble of Tartu University and Dance Group of Estonian University of Life Sciences, Tarbatu.
The new dances and student groups can be also admired this summer in Tartu, at the historical jubilee event Gaudeamus 2006.
