Today takes place XV Baltic Students Song and Dance Festival Gaudeamus opening ceremony. The Grand opening ceremony will be seen at 23.00 on Town Hall Square and on the shores of river Emajogi.

Three days lasting biggest students festival in Baltic States will be opened tonight at 23.00 by President of Republic of Estonia Arnold Rüütel. Also Mayor of Tartu Laine Janes will pass her greetings to the audience. The official opening will be followed by unimaginable show where water, fire and music are combined, on river Emajogi.

The keyword of the opening ceremony is Pattern that is combined by sound, dance, fire, water and participants. The producer Ain Maeots is sure that patterns will be created among audience, in peoples heads and souls – weather its participants or quests, alumni or those who are here first time.

The producer of fire show is Tiiu Kirsipuu, the fireworks in performance of Von Krahl fireartists is led by Indrek Leht. Dance patterns artist is Katrin Essenson, orgiginal music author is Tiit Kikas.

After the fire show torchlight procession will lead to Kassitoome 
where Gaudeamus memorial stone will be opened by Tartu University 
Rector Jaak Aaviksoo. The memorial stone marks the place where the 
first students songfestival was started. 

Todays Gaudeamus logo – the three frist colours of national flags of 
Baltic states symbolize youth, courage and aspiration. The three 
Gaudeamus days comprise youth, academe and nationalism.
