European Union Supports the Creation of Baltic Folk-cultural Network With Over Half Million Estonian Kroons

On the 26th of september the representatives of Phare CBC programme and NGO Tartu Students Club signed contract to support the Baltic students cooperation network in folk-culture. Phare CBC programme supports this undertake with 44 961 Euros while Students Club self-finance is12 769 Euros.

The goal of the project is to promote folk-cultural cooperation between student organisations and leaders in Estonia, Latvia and Lituania.

In order to promote folk dances, folk songs and pipe-music, there will be held several seminars and workshops, regular meetings and concerts. Also advertising publications and video will be produced. During the project new dances will be created, where modern and traditional styles are combined. The coreography is going to be made by René Nõmmik, academic of Tallinn University. The new dances will be presented in Vilnius, Kanas, Klaipeda, Liepaja and Riga in May 2006.

The partners of the project are Liepaja Pedagogic Academy from Lativia and Lithuanian Chorus Association, who will give their contribution in organising concerts and creating new cooperational bonds between Baltic students folk-cultural organisations and associations.

The first bigger try-out for the freshly created network will be XV Baltic Students Song and Dance Festival Gaudeamus in the summer of 2006.
